_____

Up for sale is a classic American made Guild D-25CH dreadnought acoustic from the late 70's.

The overall condition is excellent. It is rare to see vintage Guilds in this good of condition because many times they are played very hard... because they are such great guitars.

This guitar has been purchased from a 1 home owner and has only been played indoors - never gigged or played outside. This Guild has been carefully stored inside the original hardshell case when not played.

Has some minor surface scratches on top of body from playing with pick. Has some pickguard swirls and marks from regular play. Some normal surface scratches/marks here and there. Nothing major and worth noting. The nut has been upgraded to a rock solid brass nut during the 90's for better intonation and tuning stability. The bridge pins may have been changed but not too sure. But they definitely look period correct with some beige-ish hue from natural age. NO HEADSTOCK CRACK.

The 70's-80's Guild D25 series (M, CH, etc) are very highly regarded guitars when it comes to the acoustic dreadnought category. This 1978 D25CH is no different. The sound is HUGE and an absolute cannon, especially when strumming with a heavy pick. Very comparable, if not equal sound volume when comparing to a Martin D-28 or a Gibson Jumbo/Dreadnought. Cowboy chorders will find this guitar very pleasing and enjoyable to play.

These Guild D25's are also known for their extreme durability and build quality. You can take and play this guitar anywhere and the build quality will hold up without question. You can play it normally at home... or take it outdoors to a campsite.. or on the road gigging... etc. Build quality + durability is no issue for this guitar whatsoever.

The neck profile is your standard 70's style Guild profile. I would say slightly bigger in girth compared to a modern C. But there is a slight tapered in the neck profile as well which makes playing up and down the fretboard very comfortable and easy to play.

To me, the highlight of this Guild guitar is the beautiful cherry red finish throughout the entire guitar. The cherry red is a darker hue... both on the front and back side of the guitar. It gives a very nice looking even theme throughout. Definitely a crowd pleaser when it comes to purely the aesthetics.

You have your classic vintage Guild oval style tuners and the serial # imprinted on the top end of the headstock just like most vintage Guilds. Tuners are very high quality and very stable... no need to replace unless you want to change to a different design.

The action is very low which makes it easy for any guitarist of any genre to play. Standard pearl dot inlays and standard Guild-style pickguard design.

Comes with original Guild hardshell case with blue interior. The handle is missing but a simple and cheap replacement that requires little to no effort.

Overall this is truly a very underrated yet very well-made American dreadnought guitar. Guild guitars usually get over-shadowed by Gibson/Martin acoustics... but don't let that fool you of their build/tone... because they can definitely hold it's own.

Comes with:
- 1978 Guild D-25CH
- Original Guild Hardshell Case (blue interior)

Guild Acoustic Guitars: A Legacy of Craftsmanship and Tone

Guild Guitars is a well-known American guitar manufacturer that has been producing high-quality acoustic guitars since 1952. Guild is recognized for its craftsmanship, rich tone, and versatility, making it a favorite among both amateur and professional musicians. Their acoustic guitars are particularly praised for their balanced sound, resonant tone, and excellent build quality.

Key Features of Guild Acoustic Guitars

1. Body Types and Design

Guild offers a variety of body shapes and sizes, each designed to provide a different tonal character. Some of the most common Guild acoustic body styles include:

  • Dreadnought: One of the most popular acoustic body shapes, known for its loud, powerful sound and deep bass response. Guild’s dreadnought guitars are often favored by bluegrass, folk, and rock musicians.
  • Concert and Grand Concert: These guitars have a smaller, more focused sound, ideal for fingerpicking and softer playing styles. They provide a more balanced tone and are great for solo performances.
  • Jumbo: Known for their big, booming sound with excellent projection, jumbo guitars are ideal for strumming and playing in larger venues.
  • Orpheum: A historically significant series from Guild, the Orpheum models offer a more vintage feel, with art deco-inspired designs and a warm, rich tone.

Guild guitars often have solid wood construction for the top, back, and sides, which contributes to their rich, resonant sound. Common tonewoods include spruce (for tops) and mahogany, rosewood, or maple (for backs and sides).

2. Tonewoods

Guild guitars are known for using high-quality tonewoods that enhance the overall sound and durability of the instruments:

  • Spruce: Often used for the top of the guitar, spruce provides bright, clear, and dynamic tones. It is one of the most common tonewoods used for acoustic guitar tops.
  • Mahogany: Mahogany backs and sides are known for producing a warm, mellow tone with a pronounced midrange. It is commonly found on many Guild models.
  • Rosewood: Rosewood offers a deep, rich bass and sparkling treble with great resonance. It is commonly used for the back and sides of higher-end models.
  • Maple: Maple is a bright-sounding wood with sharp attack and clear definition, often used for the back and sides of Guild’s more premium guitars.
  • Cedar: Cedar tops are known for their soft, warm tone, with a more immediate response, making them great for fingerstyle players.

3. Neck and Fingerboard

  • Neck: Guild guitars typically feature mahogany necks, which provide a warm, smooth feel and excellent sustain.
  • Fingerboard: The fingerboard is often made from rosewood or ebony, both of which offer a smooth, fast playing surface and contribute to the guitar’s overall tonal richness.
  • Scale Length: Guild guitars often have a 25.5-inch scale length for dreadnought models, offering a balance of comfort and projection.

4. Sound and Playability

Guild acoustic guitars are praised for their balanced sound and rich tonal character, making them suitable for a wide range of musical styles, including folk, rock, country, and blues. They are known for their clear mids, warm bass, and bright treble.

  • Balanced Sound: Guild guitars offer a well-rounded tone that doesn’t emphasize any one frequency too much, making them versatile for different genres.
  • Sustain: The use of solid woods and Guild’s craftsmanship results in great sustain, allowing notes to ring out clearly.
  • Comfort: Guild’s necks are designed for easy playability, with comfortable profiles that suit both beginners and experienced players. The body shapes are also designed for ease of playing, with well-balanced proportions.
