The Gibson Les Paul Gothic Morte is a special edition of the iconic Gibson Les Paul electric guitar, designed with a dark, gothic aesthetic and a distinctive visual appeal. This model is part of Gibson's Gothic series, which includes various guitars with a darker, more sinister look, typically aimed at players who enjoy metal, hard rock, or gothic-themed music.
Key Features of the Gibson Les Paul Gothic Morte
1. Body and Construction
- Body Style: The Les Paul Gothic Morte retains the classic Les Paul shape, known for its single-cutaway body, offering excellent sustain and tonal richness.
- Body Material: Made from mahogany with a maple top (like most traditional Les Pauls), this construction provides a warm, resonant tone with a bright, cutting top end.
- Finish: The Gothic Morte is distinguished by its black satin finish, giving it a sleek, matte appearance with a subtle, haunting aesthetic. The finish is complemented by darkened hardware for a more ominous look.
- Inlays: The fingerboard is typically adorned with gothic-style inlays, such as skull and crossbones or other dark symbols, contributing to its unique visual identity.
2. Neck and Fingerboard
- Neck Material: The neck is made from mahogany, known for its tonal warmth and stability.
- Neck Profile: It typically features a slim taper neck profile, designed for fast playability, especially suited for lead guitarists who need to perform quick runs and solos.
- Fingerboard: The fingerboard is made of rosewood, with custom skull inlays or crossbones inlays to enhance the gothic theme.
- Scale Length: Standard 24.75-inch scale length, which is common for Les Paul guitars and contributes to their characteristic warmth and smooth string bends.
3. Electronics
-
Pickups:
- The Les Paul Gothic Morte is equipped with Gibson's humbucking pickups, often the 490R (neck) and 498T (bridge), which provide a strong, midrange-heavy tone with plenty of bite and sustain. These pickups are ideal for heavier styles of music, including hard rock and metal.
- The humbuckers offer a thick, powerful sound with excellent noise cancellation, making them perfect for high-gain situations.
-
Controls:
- 2 Volume Knobs, 2 Tone Knobs, and a 3-way toggle switch for selecting the bridge, neck, or both pickups.
- The tone controls allow for shaping the sound, from smooth, jazzy tones to more aggressive, biting tones for rock and metal.
4. Hardware
- Bridge: The guitar features a Tune-O-Matic bridge with a stopbar tailpiece, providing solid intonation and sustain.
- Tuners: Grover tuners are typically used for reliable tuning stability.
- Hardware: The hardware is usually finished in black nickel or black chrome, which complements the guitar’s dark aesthetic and gives it a gothic look.
