Up for sale is a rare Fender Jaguar "50th Anniversary Edition" model in a beautiful Burgundy Mist Metallic finish.

This specific guitar was released in ONLY 2012 to celebrate Fender's 50th anniversary of the Jaguar model... which was first introduced to the public market in 1962. Fender released ONLY 3 colorways - Candy Apple Red, Lake Placid Blue Metallic & Burgundy Mist Metallic... with the latter Burgundy color being the more desirable finish for many.

Only available for 1 year and has now been discontinued and cannot be purchased new on the retail market.

Fender has not released the exact unit # of units produced, but a conservative # is less than 500 units TOTAL for each colorway (Burgundy Mist/Lake Placid Blue).

This "50th Anniversary" Jaguar is in near mint and showroom condition. Some minor smudges on metal hardware. Some minor scratches/swirls on pickguard from home play. It is in the same new condition as guitars hung up on upper section at Guitar Center/Sam Ash/etc.

No fretwear, no modifications/alterations. Everything is all factory original with less than 10 hours playing time TOTAL. Guitar has been placed inside the tweed case when not played in a humidified guitar storage room. NO HEADSTOCK CRACK. NO ELECTRONIC ISSUES.

The "50th Anniversary Edition" Jaguar is basically a great blend of vintage Jaguar specs mixed with some modern features for ease of playability and stronger/diverse tone.

Nice and sturdy alder body. Rosewood fretboard with a maple neck. Has some very nice flames and figuring on back of the maple neck. Large block pearl inlays starting from the first fret... similar vibe to a Gibson Les Paul Custom. Unique metal neck plate stamped with "Jaguar 50 Years // 1962-2012".

Very comfortable Fender's "Modern C-shape" profile. Honestly the modern C-shaped neck is one of the greatest necks made in my opinion. It is the most versatile neck profile for any musician in any genre. Jazz players, blues players, rock players and even classical guitar players can all appreciate Fender's "Modern C-shaped" neck profile IMO.

Special re-designed Jaguar single-coil pickups with a hotter output. GREAT guitar to just play straight through a Fender Tube Amp. If you own a Fender Princeton Reverb (or any quality tube amp), you can crank it past Volume 6 and mix some Reverb in.... and it will sound incredible. You can truly get some classic California Surf Rock tones out of this guitar with no extra pedals at all.

24-inch scale length which makes playing much easier all across the fretboard. 9.5" radius and also an increased neck pocket angle which provides stronger intonation and a more stable tuning all around. The "50th Anniversary" also has a slightly reposition tremolo location to provide a greater bridge break angle... which gives a MUCH better sustain than any older vintage Jaguar. One of the easiest guitars to use the whammy/tremolo bar with... very fun to use.

2 Knobs (master volume/master tone). You also have the unique Jaguar/Jazzmaster circuit switching ability that cannot be done with a Stratocaster/Telecaster/LP/etc. You can use the Top Circuit switch for a more "bluesier and warmer" tone and then immediately switch back the the Bottom Circuit for the classic Jaguar tone with punchier "bite".

For the "50th Anniversary", Fender basically took some of the inconveniences or "flaws" of the original vintage Jaguar... and modified/fixed those issues on this 2012 Jaguar release.

Overall, this is just a guitar you don't see much everyday... It's a great guitar for those who appreciate the Fender Offsets but don't want a mass produced one.. but a more unique Jaguar that easily catches one's attention.

Plus who doesn't like Burgundy Mist? It's one of Fenders great GREAT color finishes ever in my humble opinion...

______________

The Fender Jaguar is one of Fender's most iconic electric guitars, originally introduced in 1962. Known for its distinctive design and innovative features, the Jaguar has become a favorite among various genres, particularly surf rock, punk, alternative rock, and indie music. It has a unique sound and playability that sets it apart from other Fender models like the Stratocaster and Telecaster.

Key Features of the Fender Jaguar

1. Body and Construction

  • Body Style: The Fender Jaguar features a short-scale body with a curved, offset shape. This offset body design is slightly asymmetrical, with a contoured back that makes the guitar comfortable to play while standing or sitting.
  • Body Material: The body is typically made from alder or ash, depending on the model and year. Alder is known for providing a balanced tone, while ash offers a bit more brightness and resonance.
  • Finish: The Jaguar is available in a variety of finishes, including classic colors like Sunburst, Olympic White, Fiesta Red, and other vintage-inspired hues. Many models also feature aged finishes for a worn-in look.

2. Neck and Fingerboard

  • Neck Material: The neck is typically made from maple, which contributes to the guitar's bright, snappy tone.
  • Neck Profile: The Jaguar features a shorter 24-inch scale length, which gives it a slightly different feel compared to other Fender guitars. The shorter scale makes the strings easier to bend and gives the guitar a slightly warmer, more focused sound.
  • Fingerboard: The fingerboard is usually made of rosewood or maple, with 22 frets. The fretboard radius is typically 7.25 inches, which is slightly curved, making it ideal for chordal work and vintage-style playability.
  • Neck Binding and Inlays: Many Jaguar models feature binding along the neck and dot or block inlays, depending on the specific variant.

3. Electronics

  • Pickups: The Jaguar is equipped with single-coil pickups, which are known for their bright, clear sound with a bit of bite. These pickups are smaller than traditional Stratocaster or Telecaster pickups, giving the Jaguar a more distinct sound. The bridge pickup tends to be bright and cutting, while the neck pickup is smoother and warmer.
  • Pickup Switching System: One of the defining features of the Jaguar is its pickup switching system, which is unique and more complex than other Fender guitars. It features a strat-style 3-way switch for selecting the neck, bridge, or both pickups, along with two on/off switches for each pickup and a rhythm circuit that offers a different tone profile.
  • Rhythm Circuit: The rhythm circuit is a feature unique to the Jaguar, providing a darker, more mellow tone that is ideal for jazz, rhythm guitar, or smooth lead work. It can be engaged by a small switch located on the upper horn of the guitar.

4. Hardware

  • Bridge: The Jaguar features a floating bridge design with a roller bridge or a vintage-style bridge. The floating bridge allows for smooth vibrato use and is often paired with a vibrato tailpiece for expressive bending and warbling effects.
  • Vibrato System: The Jaguar's vibrato tailpiece (often referred to as the "floating tremolo" system) is one of its most distinctive features. It offers subtle pitch changes and smooth, controlled vibrato, though it is sometimes considered less stable than other systems like the Stratocaster's or Bigsby-style tremolos.
  • Tuners: The Jaguar typically uses vintage-style tuners with cloverleaf buttons, which are reliable but can require some maintenance to keep in tune over time.

Sound and Tonal Characteristics

The Fender Jaguar is known for its bright, punchy sound with a lot of clarity and articulation. The key tonal characteristics include:

  • Bright and Clear: The single-coil pickups provide a bright, crisp tone with a lot of sparkle, making the Jaguar great for rhythm guitar, lead work, and clean tones.
  • Short-Scale Warmth: The 24-inch scale length gives the Jaguar a slightly warmer, rounder sound compared to longer-scale guitars like the Stratocaster or Telecaster. The shorter scale also makes the strings feel looser and easier to bend.
  • Vibrato and Expression: The floating tremolo system allows for smooth vibrato and subtle pitch bends, which is great for surf rock and other genres that require expressive, fluid note manipulation.
  • Versatility: The Jaguar’s ability to switch between the rhythm circuit and the regular circuit gives it a wide tonal range. The rhythm circuit offers a darker, mellow sound, while the regular circuit is bright and punchy. The pickup switching system also provides a wide variety of tones, from sharp and cutting to smooth and creamy.

Playability

  • Neck and Scale Length: The 24-inch scale makes the Jaguar easier to play for those who prefer shorter scale lengths, as it allows for easier string bends and a smoother feel for smaller hands.
  • Ergonomics: The offset body design makes the Jaguar comfortable to play, especially for players who stand while performing. The contoured shape of the body fits nicely against the player's body, providing a more balanced feel.
  • Action and Setup: The floating bridge can be tricky to set up, and some players may prefer to adjust the height or swap out the bridge for a more stable option. However, with the right setup, the Jaguar is a highly playable guitar with a smooth, fast neck.

Who Is the Fender Jaguar For?

  • Surf Rock Enthusiasts: The Jaguar is a classic choice for surf rock players due to its bright, jangly tone and expressive vibrato system.
  • Punk and Alternative Rock Players: The Jaguar has been embraced by punk and alternative rock musicians for its unique sound and edgy look. It’s often associated with artists like Kurt Cobain of Nirvana and J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr.
  • Indie and Experimental Musicians: The Jaguar’s versatility, unique tonal options, and expressive capabilities make it a popular choice for indie and experimental musicians who want a guitar that stands out.
  • Players Seeking a Vintage Sound: The Jaguar has a classic, vintage sound that appeals to players who love retro tones and the feel of a guitar that has been around for decades.

Conclusion

The Fender Jaguar is a distinctive and versatile electric guitar that stands out due to its unique design, innovative features, and wide tonal range. Whether you're into surf rock, punk, alternative, or indie, the Jaguar can provide the sound and playability you're looking for.
