Up for sale is a very nice 2012 Gibson Les Paul Studio in a unique factory "Radiant Red" colorway.

The Gibson Les Paul Studio model is known for being the best "bang for your buck" type guitar when it comes to the Gibson lineup. You're not paying the top dollar $5000+ for a Les Paul Custom models.. but still getting the standard USA Gibson quality without compromising tone or feel.

The Radiant Red finish is a very unique colorway that Gibson has not released on many of their guitars. Very different type of look from a standard "Cherry Red" or "Wine Red" finish. More similar to a "Ferrari Red" finish released by Gibson on some of their older models.

This guitar is in overall very very good condition with some minor surface dings, scratches, marks from normal home play. Some surface scratches on body/back/pickguard area from playing with pick. Some minor dings/marks on side of body. Small mark on bottom of headstock area from being placed on guitar stand. Small ding on top of headstock. Small blemish on middle of neck on the back. No affect on playability - simply visual. NO HEADSTOCK CRACK.

Some nice natural surface checking on body and back of neck - very common on these types of Gibson finishes. Very difficult to see in pictures, but you can notice them if you look up front very closely to the guitar. The wood grains are slowly opening up b/c of age and the look + sound are nicely opening up as well.

Standard Gibson Les Paul setup and feel... because that's exactly what it is. 2 Gibson Humbucking pickups, standard 4 knobs (2 tone / 2 volume). 2 Knobs are actually hidden Push/Pull knobs that coil splits the pickups... gives you 2x the amount of tones you can get on this guitar. Very nice subtle upgrade that only the player will know.

VERY COMFORTABLE NECK PROFILE. A slight variation of a Gibson modern-C.. but with a little bit more girth in the middle - similar to a Norlin Era 70's Gibson LP Custom. Very nice neck profile for classic chord grips up the fretboard. Very balanced neck for single note playing as well. Blues/Jazz players will appreciate this neck, as well as cowboy-chorders.

Kluson Deluxe vintage style tuners, Classic Gibson "trapezoid" pearl inlays starting on 3rd fret, Standard 3 pickup selector located on top of body (Neck / Middle / Bridge). VERY BALANCED OVERALL WEIGHT. Not too heavy like some Gibson Standards/Customs... and not too light like some lower end Epiphone models. Very nice weight for gigging + playing with a strap while standing up.

The highlight of this guitar is the combination of the neck feel + the pickup tone. Pair this with any quality tube amp (Fender Princeton Reverb, Twin Reverb, Mesa Boogie, etc)... and that's all you really need. The 2 push/pull coil splits just makes the guitar a bit sweeter when playing.

Overall, this is just a very high quality and well made USA Gibson Les Paul... The Studio model doesn't make a dent in your wallet while still giving you the USA Gibson brand name. It doesn't compromise on the quality of the tone or overall build quality. And plus this "Radiant Red" finish makes the LP a little bit more unique than the rest. Just not a color you see everyday.

The Gibson Les Paul Studio is a more affordable and streamlined version of the iconic Les Paul guitar, designed to offer many of the features and tonal qualities of the traditional Les Paul models, but at a lower price point. First introduced in 1983, the Les Paul Studio was created to cater to professional musicians who wanted the classic Les Paul sound and feel without the high cost associated with the more ornate Les Paul Standard or Les Paul Custom models.

Key Features of the Gibson Les Paul Studio

1. Body and Construction

  • Body Style: Like all Les Paul models, the Studio features the signature single-cutaway design that is both visually iconic and ergonomically functional. This shape allows for excellent access to the higher frets while maintaining the sustain and resonance that Les Pauls are known for.
  • Body Material: The body is typically made from mahogany with a maple top. The maple top is often plain or topped with a veneer in contrast to the flamed maple used in higher-end models. This gives the guitar a more straightforward appearance while still retaining the tonal qualities that make the Les Paul famous.
  • Finish: The Les Paul Studio often comes in more minimalist finishes, such as matte or satin finishes, which differ from the glossy finishes found on higher-end models. Common colors include black, wine red, and tobacco burst, among others.

2. Neck and Fingerboard

  • Neck Material: The neck is typically made from mahogany, which contributes to the guitar's warm, rich tone. The mahogany neck offers a sturdy and stable foundation for the instrument.
  • Neck Profile: The Les Paul Studio features a rounded or slim taper neck profile, making it comfortable for most players, especially those who prefer a thinner neck for faster playability.
  • Fingerboard: The fingerboard is usually made from rosewood, offering a smooth and fast playing surface. It features 22 frets and is typically equipped with dot inlays (as opposed to the more decorative block inlays found on higher-end models).
  • Scale Length: The scale length is 24.75 inches, which is standard for Les Paul guitars and contributes to the instrument's warm, full tone.

3. Electronics

  • Pickups: The Les Paul Studio is typically equipped with Gibson's 490R (neck) and 490T (bridge) humbucking pickups. These pickups offer a balance between vintage warmth and modern punch, making them versatile for a wide range of styles, from clean tones to heavy distortion.
    • The 490R pickup is known for its smooth, creamy tones with a bit of warmth, ideal for rhythm playing or smooth leads.
    • The 490T pickup is slightly hotter, providing a more powerful and aggressive tone, making it great for lead playing or heavier music.
  • Controls: Like other Les Paul models, the Studio features 2 volume knobs, 2 tone knobs, and a 3-way toggle switch for selecting the bridge, neck, or both pickups. The tone controls allow for a wide range of tonal shaping, from bright and cutting to warm and mellow.

4. Hardware

  • Bridge: The Les Paul Studio uses a Tune-O-Matic bridge and a stopbar tailpiece, which are known for their stability, sustain, and ease of adjustment. This bridge setup allows for precise intonation and tuning stability.
  • Tuners: The Les Paul Studio typically comes with Grover tuners, which are reliable and provide excellent tuning stability.
  • Hardware: The hardware is typically finished in nickel or chrome, giving it a more utilitarian look compared to the gold hardware found on higher-end models.

Sound and Tonal Characteristics

The Gibson Les Paul Studio delivers the classic Les Paul tone, with a few differences due to its more simplified construction. The main tonal characteristics include:

  • Warm and Rich: The mahogany body and maple top combination provides a rich, warm tone with plenty of sustain. The 490R and **490T pickups further enhance this warmth, making the guitar perfect for genres like blues, rock, and classic rock.
  • Versatility: The Les Paul Studio can handle a wide range of tones, from smooth, mellow jazz tones to crunchy, high-gain rock riffs. The combination of humbucking pickups and the tone controls gives players the ability to dial in a variety of sounds.
  • Powerful Distortion: The 490T bridge pickup offers a powerful sound with plenty of bite, making the Les Paul Studio great for high-gain playing, hard rock, and metal. The neck pickup provides a smooth, creamy sound for solos and rhythm work.

Playability

  • Neck Profile: The Les Paul Studio's neck is designed to be comfortable for a wide range of players. The rounded or slim taper neck is easy to navigate for both rhythm and lead playing.
  • Ergonomics: While the Les Paul body is known for being a bit heavier than other guitars, the Studio's more minimalist design and satin finish make it more comfortable to play for long periods. The offset body helps with weight distribution, making it less tiring to hold.
  • Action and Setup: The Les Paul Studio is generally well-suited for a wide range of playing styles. It is a good option for players who prefer a lower action for faster playing and easier string bends, but it can also be set up for heavier, more aggressive playing styles.

Who Is the Gibson Les Paul Studio For?

  • Budget-Conscious Players: The Les Paul Studio is perfect for players who want the classic Les Paul sound and feel but at a more affordable price point. It offers many of the same tonal qualities and construction features as higher-end Les Paul models, without the premium price tag.
  • Rock and Blues Musicians: The Les Paul Studio's warm, rich tones make it a great choice for blues, classic rock, and hard rock players. The guitar can handle both clean and distorted tones with ease, making it versatile for different musical styles.
  • Live Performers: The Les Paul Studio is built for players who need a reliable guitar for live performances. Its solid construction and Tune-O-Matic bridge provide excellent tuning stability, even in demanding playing situations.
  • Intermediate and Advanced Players: While the Les Paul Studio is often a great option for beginners, it also appeals to intermediate and advanced players who want a professional-grade instrument without the extra frills of more expensive models.

Conclusion

The Gibson Les Paul Studio is a fantastic choice for musicians who want the classic Les Paul sound and feel without the high cost of the more ornate models. With its mahogany body, maple top, and 490R/490T humbuckers, the Les Paul Studio delivers the rich, powerful tone that Les Pauls are known for. Whether you're into blues, rock, or metal, the Les Paul Studio is versatile enough to handle a wide range of musical styles. Its simplified design and affordable price make it a great option for players looking for a no-frills, high-quality instrument.
