2015 Fender Stratocaster "59 AVRI" (American Vintage Reissue)
Made in Corona, CA - USA

3-Tone Sunburst

Up for sale is a Fender Stratocaster "1959 American Vintage Reissue" in classic 3-Tone Sunburst Finish.

Never been gigged, only played indoors. Comes from pet/smoke/child-free home. Adult owned only.

Overall condition is very good to excellent. Some light pickguard smudges and marks. Some superficial finish scratches on the front / back of body. 1 small ding on bottom of the body with some minor scruffing from playing sitting down.

No cracks, no fretwear. Original Fender pickups. 5-Way Toggle switch. Plastic film still on back plate.

The Fender AVRI Series (American Vintage Series) is the best "bang for your buck" series to get the real thing. As in.... if you really want an actual Pre-CBS 1959 Fender Strat but don't want to spend the Five Figures, then you get an Fender AVRI to get a more affordable and modern built version guitar.

This 59' AVRI is no exception. It has a similar chunkier 50’s style Strat neck profile and a great feeling (and looking) rosewood fretboard. It feels very good for playing classic bar chords and also fingerpicking as well. Those with larger sized hands may enjoy this neck profile the most. The closest neck profile comparison IMO is to that of a John Mayer PRS "Silver Sky".

Comes with a nice subtle mint green type colored pickguard. Also has red clay dot inlays rather than the traditional white that adds an extra vintage vibe.

Overall a very high quality USA Fender electric guitar that also sounds pretty damn good.

Comes with:
- Fender Stratocaster “59 AVRI”
- Original paperwork & tags
- Original Fender Hardshell Cas

The Fender Stratocaster AVRI (American Vintage Reissue) is a high-quality, reissued version of the classic Fender Stratocaster guitar, designed to replicate the vintage Stratocasters produced in the 1950s and 1960s. Part of Fender's American Vintage series, the AVRI models were made to honor the original designs of the Stratocaster, while offering modern playability and construction quality.

Key Features of the Fender Stratocaster AVRI

1. Body and Construction

  • Body Style: The AVRI Stratocaster features the classic double-cutaway body design, which provides excellent access to the upper frets. The Stratocaster's iconic curved body is known for its comfort, and the AVRI model is no different, offering a guitar that is easy to play for extended periods.
  • Body Material: The body is typically made from alder (common for 1950s and 1960s Strats) or ash (found on earlier models). Alder provides a balanced tone with a slightly scooped midrange, while ash offers a brighter, punchier tone with more pronounced highs.
  • Finish: The AVRI Stratocasters are available in a variety of classic vintage finishes, including three-tone sunburst, Olympic white, fiesta red, and lake placid blue. The finish is often a nitrocellulose lacquer, which gives the guitar a more vintage look and feel, as it wears and ages naturally over time.

2. Neck and Fingerboard

  • Neck Material: The neck is typically made from maple, a wood that contributes to the Stratocaster's bright and snappy tone. The American Vintage Reissue models often feature a maple neck with a rosewood or maple fingerboard depending on the specific year they are re-creating.
  • Neck Profile: The AVRI Stratocasters typically feature a vintage-style neck profile, which can vary slightly depending on the specific reissue. For example, the 1954 reissue might have a soft "V" neck profile, while later models like the 1960s reissue will have a "C" shaped neck for more comfort and easier playability.
  • Fingerboard: The fingerboard is usually made from rosewood or maple, with a 7.25-inch radius (which is vintage-correct for the 1950s and early 1960s models). The 7.25-inch radius is more curved than modern Stratocasters, which can make it feel a bit more vintage and traditional, though it can be a bit challenging for players who prefer flatter necks for faster playing.

3. Electronics

  • Pickups: The AVRI Stratocasters are equipped with vintage-style single-coil pickups, which are designed to replicate the sound of the original Stratocasters. These pickups deliver the signature bright, bell-like tones that Stratocasters are famous for, with excellent clarity and articulation. They are usually wound with alnico magnets (either Alnico 3 or 5, depending on the model year).
    • Neck Pickup: Offers a smooth, warm tone that is perfect for rhythm playing and clean lead tones.
    • Middle Pickup: Known for its quacky tone, especially when combined with the neck or bridge pickups in the 2nd and 4th positions on the pickup selector.
    • Bridge Pickup: Delivers a sharp, cutting tone, great for bright, sharp leads and funky rhythms.
  • Pickup Switching: The AVRI Stratocasters use the classic 5-way switch for selecting the neck, middle, bridge, or combinations of these pickups. This allows for a wide range of tones, from the bright, cutting bridge pickup to the smooth, warm neck pickup.

4. Hardware

  • Bridge: The AVRI Stratocasters are equipped with the classic vintage-style synchronized tremolo bridge (often referred to as a "vintage-style tremolo" or "floating bridge"). This bridge allows for smooth whammy bar use and subtle pitch bending. It also features six individual saddles for precise intonation adjustment.
  • Tuners: The tuners are vintage-style Fender tuners, which provide decent tuning stability. However, they are not as modern or precise as some of the locking tuners found on newer models. Many players find them to be authentic to the vintage design but may need tuning adjustments during heavy use of the tremolo.
  • Pickguard and Hardware: The AVRI Stratocasters often come with a 3-ply pickguard in white, mint, or black depending on the finish. The hardware is typically nickel or chrome, giving the guitar a more traditional look compared to modern Stratocasters with chrome or gold hardware.

Sound and Tonal Characteristics

The Fender Stratocaster AVRI offers a vintage-inspired tone that is bright, clear, and articulate, with a bit of a "snap" due to the single-coil pickups. The key tonal characteristics include:

  • Bell-like Clean Tones: The single-coil pickups provide a bright, clear tone with excellent articulation. This makes the Stratocaster AVRI ideal for genres like blues, rock, pop, and funk.
  • Quack: The 2nd and 4th pickup positions (neck and middle, and middle and bridge) produce the signature "quack" sound that is beloved by funk and rhythm players. This is a hallmark of the Stratocaster sound.
  • Versatile Overdrive: The Strat's tone can be pushed into light overdrive with ease, making it a great option for players who want a smooth, slightly gritty tone for solos and rhythm.
  • Vintage Tone: The alnico pickups and vintage-style wiring provide a tone that is closer to the 1950s and 1960s Stratocasters, with a bit of warmth and a less pronounced midrange than modern Stratocasters. The vintage-style tremolo also contributes to the guitar's overall tonal richness and sustain.

Playability

  • Neck Profile: The vintage-style neck can feel a bit thicker compared to modern Stratocasters, especially if you're used to more modern "C" or "modern C" profiles. However, the soft "V" or "C" neck profiles on the AVRI models offer excellent comfort for many players, especially those who prefer a more traditional feel.
  • Action and Setup: The 7.25-inch radius fingerboard can feel a bit rounder and more curved, which is great for vintage-style chord work but may be a bit challenging for fast, modern lead playing. However, with proper setup, the AVRI Stratocaster can play with smooth action and effortless string bending.
  • Tremolo: The vintage-style tremolo system is a bit different from modern versions, requiring a lighter touch for subtle pitch bending. It's ideal for players who want to incorporate vintage-style whammy bar effects but may not be as stable for heavy use compared to modern locking tremolo systems.
